3 MORE Types of Replacement Windows (And More!)
Last month, we started an introduction with three of the most popular types of replacement windows that you can install in your home. These easy windows are loved for their energy efficiency, their easy operation, and their ventilation potential. But these are not the only types of replacement windows we offer at Ameritech Windows. If you’re still on the fence about which type of window to choose, here are a few stylish options:
Awning Windows
Awning windows are to casement windows as slider windows are to double hung windows. Imagine a casement window shaped horizontally rather than vertically, and opening from a hinge at the top instead of from the side. They have the same ease of operation, but at a different angle. These are great alternatives to sliding or picture windows for the window above your kitchen sink, as they offer the uninterrupted view of picture windows while still allowing for ventilation like slider windows They’re also often installed towards the top of the wall, allowing light to flood down into the room. There are also hopper windows, which open out from a hinge at the bottom and make popular basement windows.
Bay or Bow Windows
Bay or bow windows are 3-5 window panes put together to create a convex shape that bows out from the walls for an elegant look. These are great replacement window options if you have a small space and you’d like it to feel larger, or if you’ve always loved the idea of having a window seat. These windows are often complimented by casement windows or picture windows on their sides to create a truly expansive view. There’s something classically stately about this style of window.
Picture (Fixed or Transom) Windows
Sometimes you’re not looking for a window that you can open to let in the outdoor air. Sometimes you just want a nice view and natural lighting. If that’s the case, you can’t go wrong with a picture window. These windows are typically large, so they let in plenty of natural lighting and extended views of your outdoor space. However, unlike the other windows in your home, picture windows are not designed to open. Sometimes called fixed windows, they come in all shapes, so they’re a great fit for just about every room in your home.
